Overview

Plans, directs, and implements organization safety and environmental programs to ensure safe, healthy, and accident-free work environment by performing the following duties.

Responsibilities

 

 

 

Plans and implements safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal Occupational Safety, Health Administration (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Plans and implements programs to train managers and employees in work site safety practices, fire prevention, and correct handling techniques for chemicals, toxins, equipment, and other materials.

Plans and directs all aspects of the Hazardous Waste Management Program, including but not limited to: compliance, implementation and training.

Prepares studies and analyses of industrial accident causes and hazards to health for use by company personnel and outside agencies.

Performs Job Hazard and Job Safety Analysis.

Inspects organization facilities to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, determines corrective or preventative measures where indicated, and follows up to ensure measures have been implemented.

Provides information, signs, posters, barriers, and other materials to warn of potential and actual safety hazards and to prevent access to hazardous conditions.

Conducts the investigation of accidents and injuries and implements corrective actions.

Compiles and submits accident reports required by senior management and regulatory agencies.

Maintains safety files and records.

Familiar with ISO14001

Has been designated by the Plant Manager as the Management Representative for the Environmental Management System and in that capacity is responsible for:

    • Ensuring that an environmental management system is established, implemented and maintained.
    • Reporting to top management on the performance of the environmental management system for review, including recommendations for improvement.

Lead Auditor for Environmental Management System.

Maintains EMS Training Schedule and Matrix and all supporting documentation.

Identifies gaps and facilitates corrective action plans to comply with EMS requirements.

Responsible for adherence to OSHA and other safety and environmental regulations, policies and procedures.

Well versed in LOTO

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree (B. S.M.E.) from four-year college or university; Master’s degree is preferred and seven to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

ISO14001

Knowledge and experience with governmental and regulatory agency standards (OSHA, EPA)

Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint software.

Strong managerial skills with ability to interface with senior management and union officials.

Display independent judgment and initiative.

Excellent analytical skills

Good presentation skills, both oral and written.
