Overview

Supervises a segment of manufacturing, more specifically grinding and hydromat areas, to meet production or support schedules through effective utilization of resources.

Responsibilities

  • Grinding Supervision
    • Understand needs of the HLA assembly process - Quantity / Delivery / Grade categories needed.
    • Bodies / plungers / caps
    • Monitor Operations in the area, ie, QC Checks, Operators, gauging/mastering/KDPs to schedule.
    • Monitor scrap rates and corrective action – notify engineering as necessary.
    • Improve Operators response to scrap rates – coach them to monitor outputs in an effective manner, monitor shift over shift as a reportable measurable.
    • Scrap rates should drive down month over month.
    • Evaluate manning needs – Seat polish / OD and ID Grind.
    • Assist Engineering in ordering supplies as required.
    • Set up off shifts for success in planning and production needs and communicate your needs to off shift supervisors.
  • Bronze / Swiss / Hydromat Supervision

    • Monitor Production requirements and work with materials to schedule changeovers as required.
    • Monitor Scrap off both machining processes and OD Grinders.
    • Monitor Operators, ie gauging/mastering/KDPs to schedule.
    • Assist in creation of JI’s and process reviews.
    • Manning – is it adequate or over planned.
    • Daily production counts and above / below the plan with recovery options to meet plan.
    • Inspection / pack out / safe launch - reconfigure to be more effective and focused.
    • Set up off shifts for success in planning and production needs and communicate your needs to off shift supervisors.
  • Interprets and enforces departmental and company policies and procedures in a fair and unbiased manner.
  • Help to promote individual responsibility for safety throughout the plant.
  • Solves problems involving workflow, utilization of personnel skills, machines, and facility to ensure an efficient and expedient manufacturing process.
  • Monitor and improve check sheets, CMM reports, and statistical outputs to assure compliance.
  • Create and manage hourly production boards.
  • Responsible for controlling overtime costs.
  • Responsible for fixing all part drop areas to prevent handling damage.
  • Performs miscellaneous related duties and carries out special projects as assigned.
  • Drive improvement activities by data driven KPI’s via Kaizen events, and/or Six Sigma projects.
  • Assure there are ample perishable tools, coolants, oils, etc.
  • Effectively schedule the parts to assure 100% on time delivery without expedited shipping costs.
  • Maintain scrap definition and QAD input for the QC Group
  • Report any spike in scrap at the TPC board each morning as well as QC manager/plant manager immediately for action identification.
  • Reduce the changeover time using lean practices.
  • Able to fill in other supervisory roles throughout the plant as needed.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED minimum required.
  • Associate Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience in manufacturing preferred.
  • Certification in Six Sigma at the Green Belt level preferred.
  • Prefer five or more years of experience in manufacturing field.
  • Must have strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be proficient with Excel, ie pivot tables, trend charts, pareto charts, etc.
